I can never emphasize enough how important it is to understand that your true currency is time and freedom. If you are someone who lacks an open mind and values money over time and freedom, then Hack Your Job might not be the book or the lifestyle for you. However, if you take the time to understand and realize that Hacking Your Job can also be the key to financial freedom, then read on!
I came from the world of engineering where it was at least a 9 to 5 job, and sometimes ended up being a 9 to 9 job with maximum stress, deadlines, and pointless meetings. A good friend of mine– who was also fed up with the world of engineering– finally decided to hack his job.
He was struggling through daily long commutes, as well as a demanding job, and stress that was taking a toll on his health. He decided to take a 20% pay cut, get a remote job working from home, and start a side gig to create a business he had always dreamed of.
Even though he was originally making less monetarily, I consider his extra time and energy a raise. After he got his side gig off the ground, his extra time and energy allowed him to put that time and energy into his side gig (which has ended up making him more money than he was at his engineering firm). In return, he is less stressed, makes his own schedule, gets to the gym almost daily, and is overall much happier in his life.
